Many years ago, I spent some time at Lake Powell. It was my first trip there and I thought how magical it all was...But under the water lay one of America's most spectacular canyons, now buried in a crystalline mausoleum of water and silt, lost for all to see...I could not help but feel sad that this artificial lake had entombed something so grand. Staying there was like dancing in a graveyard...it was so beautiful yet haunting as well.
