Description
The Escalante River and its myriad of tributaries carve a wide swath through a region steeped in mystery. It is a world in which opposites and contradictions are the rule and not the exception. The arteries that make up this flourishing river sliced their way through the high meadowed mountains of the Colorado Plateau, then rush down and collided with the arid desert basins below; And as they do so they leave behind a small yet unobstructed path that clearly unfolds through the petrified sands of this once primordial sea. And it is in this confounding realm of opposites that the meeting of wills draw you in. The mountains push up and the rivers cut down. The forests are islands and the deserts seas. And somewhere in the balance of all this, it is I that finds myself completely captive, as if trapped by my own mortal longings. What lies before me is something inexplicable and immeasurable yet in its own hand I am held by its splendor.
